Performance Modeling and Simulation for Water Distribution Networks

This study develops an implementation framework for asset management strategic planning of water distribution networks to meet sustainable infrastructure, socio-political, and financial targets over the life cycle infrastructure. The proposed is comprised three decision-making layers: (1) Visions Values, (2) Function, (3) Performance. strategy implemented validated by demonstrating functionality value using data from utilities in Canada. Values layer set needs utilities' stakeholders. Function uses advanced system dynamics model simulate forecast system's future behavior. Performance benchmarks, compares, graphically illustrates situation performance against each other regardless their size. Benchmarking results indicate that all can sustainably established benchmarking period. impact desired cash reserve on infrastructure indicators also investigated explore “optimal” combination allowable fee-hike rehabilitation rates contour plots developed optimal combinations ~8% per year rate 1.3% along with a 1–4% reserve, depends network condition, will allow have sufficient funds targets. modeling simulation approach presented this represents powerful tool develop operational plans thus better service
